Senior Mechanical Engineer

Scallop Imaging designs, manufactures, and sells specialized video cameras for video surveillance, security and other applications. We are seeking an opto-mechanical engineer with at least 5 years of experience to join the team to develop our next generation of products. This person will drive overall mechanical design, analysis, documentation, and functional validation of the products including opto-mechanical components and assemblies, and weather-resistant enclosures.

Responsibilities

• Work with cross-functional teams to develop opto-mechanical designs for lens assembly systems (including lenses, sensors, sensor PCBs, heat sinks).
• Work with cross-functional teams to develop the overall product design and enclosures.
• Lead the overall mechanical design, analysis, documentation and functional validation of all mechanical components and assemblies.
• Validate and characterize the mechanical design from prototype to product testing.
• Work closely with tooling vendors to create production mechanical parts designs.

Requirements

• B.S. in mechanical engineering or optical engineering.
• 5+ years of opto-mechanical design.
• 5+ years of CAD experience.
• Fluent in Solidworks.
• Knowledge of GD&T and performing statistical tolerance analysis.
• Environmental test experience (shock, vibration, ingress protection, thermal cycling).
• Experience generating Mechanical Control Outline (MCO) files and 2D critical dimension drawings for inspection.
• Familiarity with Plastic Injection/Molding and Tooling Design Basics-(Gates, Runners, Moldflow, etc.).

Preferred

• M.S. degree in Optics or Mechanical Engineering.
• Thermal analysis experience.
• Image quality test experience.
• Experience in lens characterization methodology and instrumentation.
• Understanding of additive manufacturing (3D printing).
